Janice Leung Hayes is an independent food writer and social entrepreneur with a deep love of food and drink – its sources, makers, sellers and eaters.

Her written work can be found in publications such as the South China Morning Post, New York Times, Monocle, Wall Street Journal, Australian Gourmet Traveller, Discovery Magazine (Cathay Pacific), eater.com, LUXE City Guides and more. In 2014, she co-hosted The Sizzle and Fry Show, a web series about issues in the Hong Kong food & beverage industry.

In 2012, she founded Island East Markets, a social enterprise committed to showcasing food and artisanal products that are locally and responsibly grown and produced. The same year, she was named one of the “20 people changing the way you eat and drink” by Time Out Hong Kong. Since leaving Island East Markets, she has continued to work in the world of sustainable food under her food sustainability platform Honestly Green, as well as reporting for media outlets internationally and connecting local farmers with the food and beverage industry.

In late 2015, she launched a food-focused street market, Tong Chong Street Market in collaboration with Swire Properties, which is currently running.

She is also part of the Global Shapers community, an initiative of the World Economic Forum, and judges and contributes to a range of food & beverage awards, lists and guides. As Senior Director of Little Adventures in Hong Kong, she also designs and leads custom food and culture experiences.
